CHICAGO STYLE HOT DOG

Are Chicago dogs the best dogs? With 4th of July around the corner, I thought these would be the perfect dish to make with friends around the grill.

Chicago Dog

Time: 1 hour | Difficulty: 1/5 | Servings: 12

1. Prepare Your Bun

A Chicago dog has a poppy seed bun. If you can’t find one, no problem! Simply apply an egg wash over a plain bun, sprinkle some poppy seeds on top, and bake in the oven at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.

2. Cook Your Dogs

I love grilling them, but you can always boil or steam them if that’s your preference.

3. Assemble

Place the hot dog in the bun and start topping. Add a dill pickle spear along one side of the hot dog and tomato on the other (I like cherry tomatoes for their size). Sprinkle with chopped onions and sweet relish.

Top with a couple sport peppers. If you can’t find sport peppers (they’re less common outside Chicago), pickled jalapenos or pepperoncini will do the trick.

Finish with celery salt and yellow mustard (never ketchup!) and enjoy.
